Staying Overnight for Repairs
Bigger repairs can take more than one day. If your sleeper cab is getting locked up in the shop, then we’re sorry, but you’re going to need to get a hotel. A couple of drivers have asked to spend the night in the back lot while we work on their trailer. We lock the gate to protect the shop and our customers’ equipment, so a lot depends on your preferences.
There are several nearby hotels, even if the selection isn’t quite as impressive as the nearby restaurants.
- Best Western
- Country Inn by Radisson
- Garden Inn
- Motel 6
- Spark by Hilton
- Super 8 by Wyndham
Frequently Asked Questions
For more answers, visit our FAQs page. Come see the team at Swanks and Sons if you’re passing through the ‘Ville. Here are a few of the most common questions:
“Can you add these lights since you’re already working on my truck?”
We’ve got a lot of awesome products near the waiting area. Shifter knobs, lights, and all kinds of upgrade kits. Almost daily, customers want to add extras while their truck is already getting work done. We love adding extras, but add-ons might need to be scheduled for a future visit to Swanks and Sons.
A lot depends on the work we happen to have scheduled for that day. Are you looking at a quick part replacement or a product that requires more drilling and wiring? We want to make sure that our shop is ready for the trucker scheduled next in line. Old school truckers might remember the days of paper logs and marathon solo drives, but we can’t ask our mechanics to work overtime every night (and nobody wants to pay time and a half labor costs).
We’re open to simple, last-minute add-ons, so feel free to ask. But please accept our apologies if there’s only enough time for the work that’s on the schedule.
I need to leave ASAP. Can I come back to get the work finished later?
Some freight can’t wait. When duty calls, Swanks and Sons is happy to work with you. It’s nothing personal, but if you need to leave early, then we’ll need full payment before the truck leaves the shop.
Let us know when you’re headed back to Kentucky, and we’ll schedule a time for the finishing touches.
Can I help or watch the work on my truck?
For safety and liability reasons—Please stay in the designated areas for customers. It feels a little weird, since we also ask you to drive your truck into the bay. But you can imagine how some customers can be more distracting than helpful.
When it comes to their own equipment, most truckers know more than the average diesel tech. We respect the hell out of truckers! Unfortunately, you can’t give everyone the benefit of the doubt when it comes to common sense about safety around a shop.
Are all of these lights street-legal?
At Swanks and Sons, we work with all kinds of trucks. Some have light settings reserved for truck shows that wouldn’t be legal for CMVs on the highways. We’ve taken the time to learn relevant DOT regulations like the placement of reds and ambers. We will give you a heads-up (and ask you to sign a waiver) if you’re asking for upgrades that might lead to a roadside citation.
