History of MATS in Louisville
The world’s largest heavy-duty trucking tradeshow started with the former Kentucky Motor Transport Association President Paul K. Young and a few trucking industry friends. Before the MATS got started in 1972, the two biggest trucking shows were in California and Boston. Small fleets and owner operators in the middle of the country had to take a long detour to reach cities on the coast. MATS started with a common-sense idea (and a love for the trucking industry) in the ‘Ville, and the same is true for Swanks and Sons.

Local Chrome and Diesel Work
These days, MATS attracts over 800 exhibitors and more than 55,000 attendees. The PKY Truck Beauty Championship has been a fan favorite for over 30 years. As the best chrome shop in the ‘Ville, Swanks and Sons is proud to see some of our work among the contenders. We work with a wide variety of companies, including some owner operators with zero interest in polishing for competitions. When you visit our shop, ask about the Wall of Fame, and we can tell you some stories. Chris also posts highlights of our work on TikTok.
Chrome and Lights for MATS
If you’re looking to put together a display for MATS, we do all kinds of chrome, lighting, and metalwork at Swanks and Sons. It’s a busy time of year in the ‘Ville, so you’ll want to schedule work for MATS in advance, but we’ve done some awesome installations like a sweet combination of RoadWorks watermelons on a RoadWorks custom bumper.
Since we’re just 18 miles away from the Kentucky Exposition Center, you don’t have to worry about transporting your display halfway across the country. When you’re installing your new products on a working truck, you might not want to risk a few hundred miles of road wear. Contact Chris and the team at Swanks and Sons, and we’ll hook you up.
